Lip Enhancement
Many surgical and nonsurgical methods are used to enhance the appearance of the lips. There are many safe and effective fillers used to enhance thin or flattened lips or improve facial creases and furrows resulting from the aging process. Dr. Valante will recommend the perfect treatment depending upon each patient's goals.
Lip Implants
Placing permanent implants beneath the skin can enhance and define lips or to plump and correct furrows such as nasolabial folds (creases between the nose and the corners of the mouth) or "marionette" lines (creases from the corners of the mouth).
Facial implants provide lip fullness and definition by providing structure and support underneath the skin. It may help minimize some fine vertical creasing around the lip as well. The implant provides a very natural and long lasting result because it is not absorbed or broken down by the body over time.
The implant procedure is performed in a simple in-office procedure done under local anesthetic. The implant is inserted beneath the skin via two tiny incisions. The procedure usually takes about 45 minutes. You may experience some swelling or bruising which lasts for a few days to a week following treatment. A stitch is placed at each incision site and is removed 3-5 days later. Many patients return to normal activities a day or two after treatment. By five to seven days after the implantation, most of the swelling will have subsided.
Collagen Replacement Therapy
Collagen can be injected in vertical lip lines and along the edge of the lip to enhance the definition of the lip border and make the lips appear fuller and more youthful.
The procedure is performed in the office and takes about 20 minutes. It is important to have a simple test on your forearm to make sure you are not sensitive to Collagen Implants. 97% will show no reaction to the skin test and can be treated.
Results are immediate, but not permanent. Just like your natural collagen, injectable collagen begins to lose its form and will eventually wear down. Full correction occurs and is maintained only with a series of treatments. Most people find they will need to repeat their treatment every 3-6 months.
